Kejadian 17:6
Konteks17:6 I will make you 1 extremely 2 fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you. 3
Mazmur 128:3
Konteks128:3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine 4
in the inner rooms of your house;
your children 5 will be like olive branches,
as they sit all around your table.
Yehezkiel 19:10
Konteks19:10 “‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, 6 planted by water.
It was fruitful and full of branches because it was well-watered.
[17:6] 1 tn This verb starts a series of perfect verbal forms with vav (ו) consecutive to express God’s intentions.
[17:6] 2 tn Heb “exceedingly, exceedingly.” The repetition is emphatic.
[17:6] 3 tn Heb “and I will make you into nations, and kings will come out from you.”
[128:3] 4 sn The metaphor of the fruitful vine pictures the wife as fertile; she will give her husband numerous children (see the next line).
[128:3] 5 tn One could translate “sons” (see Ps 127:3 and the note on the word “sons” there), but here the term seems to refer more generally to children of both genders.
[19:10] 6 tc The Hebrew text reads “in your blood,” but most emend to “in your vineyard,” assuming a ב-כ (beth-kaph) confusion. See L. C. Allen, Ezekiel (WBC), 1:284. Another attractive emendation assumes a faulty word division and yields the reading “like a vine full of tendrils, which/because…”; see D. I. Block, Ezekiel (NICOT), 1:607, n. 68.
